We're pretty open here at gloobles. We share all of our favourite spots and tell you why we love them. But when we sat down to discuss the second edition of our book that'll hit shelves soon, we realised that you guys might be wondering who, exactly, we are. That's when we decided to give you a little window into what goes on behind the scenes at gloobles. Next up? Our copywriter and content creator, Hayley Daen.
Here's what a day in the life looks like:
What time does your day start?
When I'm not jet-lagged (as I am at the moment), my day starts around 6:00, give or take a few.
What’s the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?
In an ideal world, I take a few deep breaths, make a cup of tea and luxuriate on the sofa. In the real world, I scroll through my phone, panic-answer texts and make my bed.
What’s your usual breakfast?
It may be the most important meal of the day, but I'm almost never eating it. The horror!
Coffee or tea?
Tea, always & forever.
Are you a morning person?
To a fault. Anyone who's ever had the misfortune of sharing my bed can attest: I'm often rising before the sun.
Where do you work? At home? At an office? Describe it to us.
I've been working at home since before Corona struck Amsterdam. Our office had a fire back in February, so I've been happily plugging away at home ever since. I like to migrate around the apartment throughout the day, moving from chair to chair, table to table. You know, just to spice things up.
Do you take a break for lunch or do you eat al desko?
I'm ashamed to admit it's usually an al desko deal for me. Old habits die hard.
What does lunch typically look like for you?
Ever since I started working from, lunch has become the biggest, most luxurious meal of the day for me. Being at home affords me the opportunity to cook something substantial and actually enjoy it. It could be anything from seared duck breast with sticky rice & wasabi mayo to a hodgepodge of veggies from my CSA. Every day looks a little different.
Do you work alone or are you surrounded by colleagues, friends or family?
Most days, I work alone. However, I did set up a little 'We Work Kerkstraat' with friends on occasion, which was a true joy.
How has COVID changed the way you work?
It's made me far more productive. I spend fewer hours (guiltily) online shopping and more time banging out work that needs to done.
Afternoon is rolling around, and you’re hitting a slump. What’s your afternoon pick-me-up? Another coffee? A brisk walk outside? A treat?
If it's not too busy at work, I like to take a little turn outside. Fresh air & sunshine (well, mostly rain, if I'm honest) does wonders for brain fog.
What time does your day usually wind down?
The markets close around 6:00 PM, so I usually wrap up at about 6:30.
It’s dinnertime. Are you cooking or ordering in? What’s on the menu?
95% of the time I'm cooking, though I can never resist the siren call of Fulu Mandarijn.
Dessert or no dessert?
Always dessert. Especially lunch dessert! Especially when it's cookies.
Walk us through your bedtime routine?
As an early bird, my evenings are sacred. I prefer to eat on the early side (thank god I live in the Netherlands) and then spend a little time ensconced on the sofa. Some nights I'm reading (fiction only), but more often than not, I'm zoning out, with a movie dribbling on in the background. After washing my face & brushing my teeth, I head to bed around 9:00 PM, where I fall asleep to the sweet, dream-disturbing blue light of my phone.
What time is lights out?
I've usually conked out before 10:00.
What are you dreaming of?
You don't want to know. Trust me.
