Our world is becoming a more beautiful, educated & cultured place each and every day. The art world was once an industry that felt impenetrable, closed off to anyone who was not in the in-crowd. Now, however, the art world is expanding rapidly, looking to include young collectors & those just hoping to expand their minds as well as the fabled art historians & gallerinas.
That being said, there are so many galleries, auctions & art fairs happening throughout the year, that we can feel a bit oversaturated & overstimulated. But, as usual, gloobles is here to help. We've distilled our list of top art events into a streamlined timeline so you know where to be & when.
Frieze Masters & Frieze London (London): October 4-7.
If you live in London, chances are you've seen this huge structure erected every autumn in Regent's Park. Meander between Frieze Masters & Frieze London to check out the best of both contemporary & Old Master Works. Don't miss the Frieze sculpture garden! Take a room at Chiltern Firehouse to make walking to the fair easy peasy.
FIAC (Paris): October 18-21.
If ancient paintings & sculptures aren't quite your thing, then the fair for you just might be FIAC. Held every autumn in beautiful Paris & exhibiting some of the best contemporary works, it is a must-see. If you want to stay somewhere a bit artsy & cool & off the beaten path, we suggest snagging a room at Hotel Grand Amour.
TEFAF New York Fall (New York): October 26-31.
Not tired of soaking up the best of culture this October? Well, we think a flight to New York is in order. Book a room at II Howard to make your stay during the fair incredibly cosy. This is one of the greatest fairs for old world fine art.
Art Basel Miami (Miami): December 6-9.
Art Basel Miami is one of three fairs that Basel holds every year. It focuses on modern & contemporary works & is a great chance to explore a city you may not have seen before. Check into Faena Miami Beach for the perfect place to rest your weary head after long days perusing the fair.
Frieze Los Angeles (Los Angeles): February 14-17.
Though many see the City of Angels as a cultural wasteland, Frieze Los Angeles is doing its best to change that. A room at Soho House West Hollywood is a great spot to hobknobwith the artsy set & makes the perfect place to rest your head & think about what you might buy.
TEFAF (Maastricht): March 16-24.
This storied art fair is the real deal. Bringing together the best of the best of Old Master works & a sprinkle of contemporary art & antiquities, it truly should not be missed. Every time we come, we love to stay at The Dutch.
Art Basel Hong Kong (Hong Kong): March 29-31.
Another Art Basel fair, but this time in glamorous & exotic Hong Kong. This is the perfect fair for you if you're interested in being in the centre of Asia's international art scene. Drop your bags at The Upper House before you hit the fair running.
Salone del Mobile Milano (Milan): April 9-14.
We've seen a lot of New York & London, but let's not forget about the design centre of Milan. Salonedel Mobile Milano focuses on furnishing & design, & it's one of our favourites for window shopping. If you want to set up camp & stay a bit longer in the city, grab a large studio at Zambala Luxury Residence.
Frieze New York (New York): May 1-5.
If New York isn't already terrific enough with a gallery or incredible museum on nearly every corner, head over at the beginning of May - one of our favourite times of year in New York - to absorb some extra culture at this art fair. We love the artful Crosby Street Hotel for its decor & location.
TEFAF New York Spring (New York): May 3-7.
Think TEFAF New York Fall but with slightly better weather. Let's face it, you're already here for Frieze, so why not stay on and hit TEFAF again. Who knows what treasures you might uncover. We'd never turn down a room at Soho House New York.
Art Basel (Basel): June 13-16.
The original Art Basel tucked away in the beautiful & scenic Swiss town of Basel. Make a little Swiss trip of it & pass through Geneva, staying at Hotel Tiffany for a night, before you dive head first into this premier contemporary art fair.
