Remember our founder Stephanie van Rappard? You might recall her interview not too long ago, where she dished on her favourite wine bars, particularly Publik Wine in Cape Town, and the best place to work in Amsterdam, Soho House Amsterdam & Zoku. We don't know about you, but we were curious how one of Amsterdam's finest fills her days and her belly. This week on THE GLOOBLES DIET, Stephanie tells all, from Mango Green Protein Smoothies to letting her boyfriend Maurits take the reigns in the kitchen as she tries to catch an extra wink of sleep before newborn Beer is ready for the day ahead.
Thursday, September 27
I try to sleep in to catch up on some sleep. Our son Beer is only 2 weeks old, so I need to feed him every 3 to 5 hours. Every morning, I take my daily vitamins (Prenatal, Magnesium, Iron, Omega 3 & Probiotics) with lots of water. Since I am breastfeeding, I am always thirsty and I drink at least 4 litres of water every day. During the week, I like to start off my day with a hot bowl of homemade oatmeal made with sprouted organic oats cooked in water (for at least 15 minutes so the rawness cooks off) and topped with fruit I have left in my fridge. Usually, I prefer raspberries & bananas. Today, I also add some raw almonds & pumpkin seeds and I drink a big cup of fresh ginger tea with it.
A few days ago, I was finally fit enough to go outside and I just love showing off my newborn in my brand new Bugaboo and of course the fresh air is the best remedy for both of us. I quickly make myself some crackers (Lisa's Choice gluten-free crackers from Marqt are my fave) with avocado, two hard boiled eggs, tomatoes and lots of extra virgin olive oil & salt before we head off. We only have an hour & a half before we have to get back to feed, so I quickly think of the best route for my shopping and of course a must: a coffee stop. This time, I choose to go to one of my favourite coffee places on the Kerkstraat, Bocca. They have delicious freshly roasted coffee & even more delicious cake. I particularly love the gluten-free vegan sweet potato cake with prunes. Ever since I got pregnant, I've been obsessed with this juicy cake (yes, this was my guilty pleasure and one that seems to have stuck with me!).
I quickly pop into Marqt to do some shopping for a home cooked meal and I run back home. I drink an alcohol-free beer - Weizen 0.0% is even better than the real deal - with some salted almonds & carrot sticks while I prepare my Melanzane (made with aubergine, courgette, homemade tomato sauce, ricotta, pine nuts & parmesan for a crusty top) with a green salad. We eat at 6.30pm while Beer sleeps. After dinner, I make myself an oat milk caffeine-free cappuccino with our new espresso machine and I eat some vanilla gluten-free Lisa's Choice cookies.
Friday, September 28
I treat myself to a Mango Green Protein smoothie and a Turmeric & Ginger Shot from my one & only favourite juicery, The Cold Pressed Juicery, which i order on the app TringTring. And of course I take my daily vitamins. My boyfriend took an afternoon off work and we walk to our all-time favourite lunch spot Dignita in the garden of the Hermitage. We are lucky, as it's a sunny & warm autumn day, so we sit outside on the terrace. I order a fresh ginger tea & the avocado toast with their homemade nut bread (sooo yummy) and I ask for some truffle mushrooms on the side. Beer is still sleeping when we finish lunch, so we order ourselves some coffee with a mouthwatering raspberry almond friand to share. Sometimes they sell out of these early, so ask your waiter to reserve one for you after your dinner!
We walk to Marqt & Slagerij de Leeuw on the Utrechtsestraat for some fresh groceries. Maurits cooks while I catch up on my emails for gloobles. He makes steak with crispy potatoes & sweet potatoes from the oven, along with steamed sugar snaps & broccoli. We eat at 6:00. After dinner, I make myself an oat milk, caffeine-free cappuccino with some Tony Chocolonely chocolate. I don't remember which flavour we had, but they are all so damn delicious.
Saturday, September 29
We "sleep in," which means we join Beer for another two hours of sleep in the morning. This is a must over the weekend and the best tip for new parents! When we finally get out of bed around 12am, Maurits cooks his signature eggs with tomatoes & some cheese and I eat it with an avocado & some gluten-free toast. We have family coming over and I drink my signature oat milk, caffeine-free cappuccino with two gluten-free madeleines from Marqt.
When our family leaves, we join them outside with Beer in his pram and go for a walk along the Amstel and stop at Thuis aan de Amstel for a quick coffee. We quickly head back home since we have friends coming over to meet our Beer. I drink a ginger beer and indulge in our cheese platter we assembled for our guests. We don't have the energy or time to cook, so we order sushi & sashimi from one of our favourite Japanese restaurants in Amsterdam, Akitsu, which we pick up and eat at home. We drink genmaicha (Japanese toasted rice tea) with our dinner.
